Golden Hello

What's the deal with the Golden Hello if you did your PGCE training in 2009/2010 and your first year of teaching in 2010/2011? I know these have been scrapped now but will those in the above years still be eligible? Also, if they are still going ahead, when are they supposed to be applied for/paid if you're in a full-time NQT role for 2010/2011?

  2. As far as I'm aware, you apply for it as soon as you pass Induction. I think we still get it for this year. Not sure when it's paid to us though. Maybe October? That's a guess, though.

So if you work full time in your NQT year when would you have passed induction? Is it two terms or the full year?

Induction takes the equivalent of a full time school year.
You should know if you are eligible for the Golden Hello as you would have been told on your PGCE and would have been given the paperwork.
You apply when you have started your post Induction employment in a State school, teaching the shortage specialism for which you trained for all or the majority of your timetable.
You have to serve at least a term post Induction to qualify for the Golden hello. If you submit at the beginning of September and are on a contract, the earliest you'd be bale to leave is the 31st december so the LA wouldable to pay you during that term, though you can't guarantee getting the payment by a certain date.
If you resign by the end of Oct to leave at 31st December and have not received the GH by the end of your employment (and are not moving to another LA school) you will not get the GH as it can only be handed over to someone on the LA payroll as a teacher 9so prompt submission of the application is recommended).

Yes, I was given the forms at the end of my training.

They state up to 6 weeks for payment to come through. Mine came through after 3!
  7. What about for those of us who are on a PGCE course this year 2010-11 and will qualify in June?

How about all the unemployed NQTs? When they finally get an induction post/perm job after induction will they be eligible for them? x

It was sent an the end of Jan this year (a little late in sending it off I know!)
  10. James you say that have stopped them for those who entered this September - do you mean September 2010 so doing PGCE at the moment of for those who start training this coming september 2011?
I thought I read something on TDA website that if we are doing our PGCE right now and will start our NQT year in September 2011 we will qualify for the golden hello....am i right or wrong!?
  11. Hi
If you started your PGCE in September 2010 you will be eligible for the golden hello provided you meet the requirements. For those who qualifued last year but did not obtian a teaching post immediately and fulfill the full rrequirements then you would not qualify foer the golden hello., It only those entering teaching from September 2011 who will not get the golden hello. The only bit that I am having checked at present is anyone who took a deferred entry for September 2011 (e.g. those on enhancement).
  12. Hi;

I started my NQT in September 2010, do I send the form off now or once I've completed the NQT year.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

  16. Thank you both for your helpful advice.
  17. Dear James,
I started for my PGCE in September 2010 but had to defer my course for next year due to health reasons. Hopefully I will be qualified in June 2012, will I be able to apply to Golden Hello ?
