Hmmm…………..like Matt Lucas but not sure on GBBO.
    Overall shocking baking...……………..truly shocking.
Fell asleep and didn't see who was booted out.

The baking skills weren't great I agree, though getting used to the camera must be difficult and presumably with 'living on site' less opportunity to practice ahead.
The final challenge does also involve knowing about baking construction and having some artistic talent as well as the baking, so not surprised not everyone could handle all those under pressure.

I've never watched more than the occasional episode but I loved it and plan to follow it this year. Husband even enjoyed it, despite himself. Matt Lucas was great I thought. The baking was not what it was about, but it was only week 1. I'm sure it will interest bakers more as the weeks roll by.

    So who was booted out?

It was the Jamaican Geordie. Her food was apparently overbaked and over flavoured. The chap in glasses got a reprieve.

Excuse me for asking, Belle, but for a while now I've been wondering whether there's any connection between your moniker and the French film entitled 'Belle de jour'.

    No.
    Next question.

I'm very disappointed with the quality of baking this year.
It's a competition after all...................they should be more skilled than they are. A lot of the showstoppers have been train wrecks!

I agree. Lots of grand plans that end up looking awful. - so messy.

I could outbake any of these contestants with one hand tied behind my back!
Have applied several times for Bake Off but never got on.........not even a whiff of interest.
Judging by the standards in recent years I have to assume I am too good!!! ;):D

    Shocking eclairs on the whole!
Just a lack of basic skills.

Thought that too. I can't bake,so could not do any better but then again, I would not put myself forward to go on the show.

I'm sure we've seen much better eclairs in the past on GBBO.

Choux pastry and crème patisserie are basic skills all bakers should have.
Hence why I was appalled at the standards.
It's no longer a baking show...……..it's all about car crash TV , with the hope one or two might just improve enough to make it to the finals.
Those rainbow bagels in bread week were pointless IMO, as was a 'caged tart' this week.
Why put a pastry cage over a tart? Why not just bake a show stopping tart?

I think the show has come to the end of its shelf life. So many bakes they could be doing but they were covered in earlier shows, so I suppose the production team think the viewers don't want to see baking recipes being used again.
I agree with Belle the standards are very low, but then we have to remember that many of the contestants did not learn to cook at school, instead they had to make 'Food Products' for a supermarket! A tragic waste of their time and of the former Home Economics teachers.
