Functional Skills Post 2014

Discussion in 'Computing and ICT' started by catch222, Mar 19, 2012.

  1. With the news of the updated list of accepted courses at KS4 which carry "weight",
    http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/qualifications/a00202523/reform-of-14-to-16-performance-tables

I am confused as I was under the impression Functional Skills was carrying on to 2014.

Can someone else confirm my reading of the situation that this will no longer count in terms of KS4 performance tables, and as such only full course GCSE is accepted?

My one area of doubt was the fact that I was under the impression that diplomas were continuing, but it looks like these are well and truly dead now, (the reality is that they have died in schools several years ago!)

    Thanks

  3. I have no idea and am completely confused.
    - what are supposed to do or not do in September 2012 - is there a curriculum or Program of Study or not?
    - Am I supposed to use existing assessment criteria (those levels, sublevels) or not from Sept 2012 or do I start making up my own?
, What qualifications count and don't count now, and to what degree?
    - Do functional skills count for anything now (we have a class each year doing this)?
Answers on a postcard with links to Govermnment websites with 'offocial information' appreciated. I think my planning is going to be sh1te next year.

  4. The announcement about the suspension of the programme of study was a "proposal" for a consultation which finishes in April, so officially it's not definite yet. See http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/curriculum/nationalcurriculum/a00202110/ict-curriculum-consultation

Regarding functional skills, as it's not a full GCSE I don't think it will count.

This gives the list of qualifications included in performance tables. http://www.education.gov.uk/childrenandyoungpeople/youngpeople/qandlearning/a00202523/reform-of-14-to-16-performance-tables

There's also a link on the page above to the list of qualifications which can be taught, which covers more things but Heads might not be interested.
