From P.G.C.E. QTS to T.A. after 10 years as full-time parent-what new skills?

Discussion in 'Teaching assistants' started by rustirachelle, Apr 28, 2011.

  1. Hello.
What additional training might I need to return to working in Primary as a Teaching Assistant?
I have a P.G.C.E. and QTS as well as five years teaching in Secondary schools.
For the last 10 years I have been a full-time parent.
    I also home-educated successfully for 7years.
    Thankyou,
    Rustirachelle.

  2. I recently got a primary TA job with a very similar background to you, except I was a primary teacher for 5 years before an even longer stint as a full-time parent (13 years!) I did volunteer at my childrens' school for a couple of years to get recent experience, but didn't do any additional training. Incidently, the job wasn't at my childrens' school. I was worried I wouldn't be employable after such a long spell out, but I applied for 4 jobs, got 3 interviews and 1 job offer in a very short space of time.
