French Texts

Discussion in 'Primary' started by ambermt, Aug 6, 2015.

  1. We mainly use Rigolo to teach French at my school, which has been great in lots of ways. However I have found that it is lacking in progression for whole texts and especially longer authentic texts for children to read in Year 5 and 6.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where to find suitable texts? We do have picture books in French and I could search online for every topic but am looking for a way to save time. Does a book or website exist? Just to clarify, I mean texts of around a paragraph that could be used to apply language learning skills, some familiar vocabulary and some not.

    Thank you!

Finally! I remembered the name of the Scheme which used 'real books'. It's the Catherine Cheater Schemes of Work. Each year group has well-known titles turned into French. Try a search to have a look.

You might find this new resource useful: http://www.goldendaffodils.co.uk/simple_comme_bonjour.php

I've never used it but there may be samples available on line.

Equally this series of 8 has simple texts in book format which the children can also read individually:

The paper catalogue is also very useful to have, and easier than on line I think, and in it you will find many more resources including selected authentic French story books.

    Bonne Chance!
  4. All great ideas thank you I will see what I have the budget left to buy!
