formative assessment and promoting pupil learning

Discussion in 'Assessment' started by h_ping, Feb 13, 2011.

  1. Hello,
I have teacher training interview coming up and we have been asked to find out about formative assessment and how
this promotes pupil learning. I am meeting next week with a headteacher from the school where I volunteer to go through what formative assessment is, but was wondering if any other teachers had ways they use formative assessment to
    promote pupil learning?

    Thank you.

Which ways have you already thought of?

  3. Formative assessment - basically ongoing assessment.
Assess as you go - informs future planning to ensure pupils being taught at appropriate level, check understanding etc.- doesn't just mean assess by marking work at end of session - includes assessing throughout lesson and altering lesson if necessary. Can take many forms - verbal feedback, written responseswork etc.
Literacy and numeracy stratengies involve assessment of prior learning before new topic is begun.
