I am a qualified Food and Nutrition teacher but left full time teaching 5 years ago and now do supply. I'm about to start a long term cover and was wondering if I need an up to date Food Hygiene Certificate?

Hi. Depends on the certificate you had. My one was for an instructor and I took it when qualifying as a PGCE student in 2001.
However, this year we have had to employ a non specialist teacher to teach some food lessons so as head of dept. I asked her to take the certificate. She did this online. Multiple choice questions. I think it cost no more than £20 and covers her for about three years. She didn't mind as it also allows her as a part time teacher to use the certificate in other food related employment.
