First Aid responsibilities

Discussion in 'Teaching assistants' started by eggshell1976, Aug 10, 2011.

  1. Hi I'm looking for some advice re my role in first aid (for course assignment)
I have had no training in first aid so what am I legally allowed to do?
With small accidents in the classroom eg a cut finger can I apply plasters?, bumped heads - can I apply ice pack?

    Thanks

Check out this website for legal requirements.
Check your school policy for what you are able to administer without training.
At our place, all TAs are trained as Appointed Persons with two of us having the extra Early Years training to cover Foundation Stage. No one without training is supposed to administer first aid but common sense must always prevail.
Hope it helps. Good luck with your assignment.
