    Great, I was wondering about that, just wasn't sure if the holocaust aspect was ok for that age group. Thanks so much for your help! [​IMG]

  2. If it's only an extract you're looking at, how about chapter 5 of 'Frankenstein'. It's the chapter when the creature comes alive and there's so much you can do with it.
  3. Opening chapter of 'Holes' - is good in terms of picking up clues about camp and unforgiving setting. Good luck.
  4. Just thought of another one. The opening chapter of The Ruby in the Smoke by Philip Pullman is always a popular choice. Lots of guessing what will happen next a couple of paragraphs in, good descriptions, mystery, etc. HTH.
