Discussion in 'Tes Authors' Group' started by mrajlong, Sep 23, 2017.
Although having looked again at the main promotional page for those resources it does actually say they've been created by three different 'independent' specialists.
That suggests more likely they were commisioned by TES which puts a different slant on things.
If this is the case it only proves what I've long thought with TES also selling its own range of phonics resources etc. and that there will be inevitable conflicts of interest.
It does seem to go against the grain of what Tes Premium resources was supposed to be about. IF they are now commissioning, endorsing and promoting these reources, it puts the rest of us poor b uggers at a disadvantage. Buyers will gravitate towards these resources even though other author's resources may be more detailed, creative and affordable. I cannot express how betrayed I feel by this
Fully agree with this post!
@TES Resource Team I really think you need to reply to these issues as a matter of urgency. You have encouraged us to upload resources. Some of us see it as a business opportunity. And now we fell like we have been sucker-punched...please allay our concerns. I welcome FAIR competition...not this...
Sadly, unlike other marketplaces for Teacher Authors, TES don't seem to place much importance on communicating with Teacher Authors. I think the fact that TES haven't responded to this thread at all speaks volumes.
No answer/explanation today either - unbelievable! And guess what's top on the resources homepage again. Hell of a coincidence innit? It's another one of the chosen ones! Come on @TES Resource Team ...time to fess up!
Sale of my primary maths resources have definitely been negatively impacted by this undermining!
Oh, and I notice the SEPTEMBER-SAVER code is in full view to get a resource for £5 for free. Guess how much the "chosen one's" resources are priced at? Words fail me...My Place Value resource pack covers all the Y3 and 4 objectives in 1 pack - for better over all value - It's not even on the Place Value trending page - Can you guess what is?
Good to see the end of term resources being promoted today.
Plan well in advance
hi @mrajlong @krisgreg30 @CurriculumForAutism @richardtock & all - thanks for your comments & feedback in this thread and other social areas on the same topic. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
We also want to assure you we are taking all of your feedback on board and appreciate your comments & suggestions. We will provide an update tomorrow as there are a few areas to cover here (as well as multiple teams involved across Content, Marketing and Authors). We want to ensure we're providing as helpful a response as possible so we appreciate your patience.
We want authors to feel important and valued, as you absolutely are. So rest assured, we hear you & will do our very best to ensure you feel that way. Thanks!
The stats for the new WRH linked resources and their authors are mind-blowingly high. I want to know why/how they got so much exposure and promotion and Tes's involvement in the whole thing. ALL authors should be treated equally and given a level playing field to sell their products. My (and other's) primary maths resources are in direct competition with these linked and Tes endorsed products. Tes's actions have potentially done irreparable damage to my (and other's) future earning power by putting these resources in the forefront of people's minds. Most of us can only dream of the exposure they have been given.
I don't feel important. I certainly don't feel valued and I think it unlikely that I ever would unless there's a global rush on Monster Punctuation resources in the near future at which point you just might take an interest.
Whatever the given explanation, the reality of how things are to be operated has been plain to see. TES can never be an open and fair marketplace while those behind it have competing interests and the decisions about who and what are promoted are made behind closed doors.
Could you also address the non-event that is the 'hubs'? After being approached to write something I thought you were going finally sort the issue of recommended resources. I generally don't produce quick to make resources so about 150 hours went into a single resource over summer trying to meet your deadline and hoping for a decent number of sales because it would be launched at the start of the school year. The result? The Maths Hub has not been promoted in any way and I have made one sale, 2 pence an hour!. I know I'm not going to make much money by making a low number of big resources but it should be better than this. I'm pretty appalled by how TES have handled all this.
The hubs eh? Wonder if Tes are waiting until they can stuff them full of their new friends' resources. Let's wait and see. People may think I am being rather OTT on this issue, but I haven't spent the last three years of my life working full time and spending every spare minute making resources, just so Tes can screw me over. My financial security and that of my families relies on the extra income I make on here...remember the pay freeze? Shame the cost of living didn't...
Is this coming today @TES Resource Team?
hi @mrajlong (et al) sorry for the delay we have quite a bit we would like to cover here and some of the team were unwell today - so bear with us. I will also drop you a line directly too. Thanks!
This in no way surprises me.
It is dissapointing though.
Have you investigated other outlets yet?
Same resources, different outlets ~ no dependence.
Promoting existing resources fairly would be a good start. Visibily applying quality control and countering copyright issues would be another. Actually having benefits for Gold authors would be a third.
