Faith in Action

Discussion in 'Religious Education' started by leviosa, Apr 10, 2012.

  1. I would look at sewa - service - perhaps how it is expressed in the gurdwara with free fod etc. Or how the symbolism of some of the 5ks is about defending those who are in need.

    thank you x
  3. Use reonline.org for some good key stage material. also equality is a really evident faith in action thing in. Sikhism, look at the design n function of the gurdwaras, especially the langar.
  4. For the older ones a good DVD to use is Michael Palin's Himalaya which shows the Golden Temple at Amritsar. It shows everyone washing up and talks about how hte king had to sit and eat on the floor with everybody else.
Will have a think and a look through some stuff I have to see if anything else comes up - brain is in studying mode as opposed to planning mode at moment!

Can you invite a Sikh to come in and talk about their faith and what it means to them, how it is active in their lives?
The goal of Sikhism, similar to that of Hinduism, is to know God personally, to achieve union with God. So actual prayer and meditation, worship in the Gurdwara, listening to the Guru Granth being read, singing and listening to the devotional songs etc is central. It is about making service a form or worship rather than just serving others in a practical, social way to make for a more just and happy life for everyone.
