EYFS add-on qualification?

Hi all, does anyone know if it's possible to acquire an add-on qualification that would allow me to work in early years? The qualification I have now is a 'NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools' but living in a rural area means that jobs are few and far between!

A couple that have popped up over the last few months required someone with a specific EYFS qualification so I think it might be in my interests to do some extra training. I really don't want to have to cover loads of things that were already part of my training though - time and money are very short - so if there was a shorter course available that would be perfect. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry I don't know of any add-on qualifications, but I would definitely apply for any job I saw advertised, especially if it was in a nursery or reception class at school. Your CACHE level 3 diploma is a nationally recognised qualification and you could always say that you would be keen to do further EYFS training. If you've had any experience in reception classes, big this up in your application. It's got to be worth a try - best of luck.

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. The job I really wanted which came up very recently was in the school in which I did my training but they were adamant that I wasn't qualified to work in EYFS. It seems there are new criteria, that came in on September 1st, regarding the qualifications needed to work in early years. The goalposts keep moving!

That's a shame, but don't give up. You could try contacting your LEA and ask their advice - they may be able to suggest a suitable course to add on to your current qualification.

That's a good idea, thank you :) I'll do that tomorrow. Had another email through today (county council education job round-up) with another great sounding job in a school not too far from me and yet again it's for EYFS and requires a specific qualification! Looks like I really do need to do this...
