Explanation text - any exciting ideas please???

HI im ts my next unit which is explanation texts for my year 4/5 class. Im tring to do my literacy planning so that the first weeks based around reading explanation text and the second week writing their own.

When i taught this last year it ended up becoming quite boring for kids.

Does anyone have any exciting teaching ideas please????
