Expiry of NQT training period

Discussion in 'NQTs and new teachers' started by GrannyKerr, Jun 19, 2012.

  1. Hello
I gained teacher status in May 2008 and worked as a supply teacher for 18 months without starting my NQT year. I was unable to find a permanent teaching role so took a job in the NHS. I'm now considering a return to teaching but uncertain how to proceed as I was under the impression you had to complete your NQT year within 3 years of qualifying. Has anyone been in this situation and knows how to get around it, would I need to re-traing or are there any other options ??
    thank you

The above is absolutely true, and still true for the 2012 new document.

Also NQTs can now do 5 years of short term supply for up to 5 years from QTS achieved date.
