Exclusive: general FE colleges could be allowed to become academies, DfE reveals

    I'm sure I will be corrected if incorrect but the FE budget is funded through the business department I f I recall correctly.

    This sounds like if an area review board recommends the merger split up or closure of a college for whatever purpose (make the budget go further) ?

    This could be locally unpopular, particularly in Rural Tory shire counties.

    An alternative option could then be to buddy up in an academy group almost like one of the old style compacts that were tried in the late 80's early 90's. Effectively transferring funding to DFE making the local budget stretch further and available for other "projects" !
