Exciting input ideas for writing

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by kaz_allan, Jun 11, 2011.

  1. Has anyone got any great child friendly ways to start a writing focus session withnwhole class , I want to involve all of them and provide exciting activities form them to choose whilst aiming for them all to be writing or most of them some will be telling stories or drawing stories but writing is what I need to focus and progress with my more able of reception children,

    Thanks all
  2. Good writing is the result of good thinking, so start with thinking and talk. Maybe get the children to think of solutions to problems brought to them by a story or nursery rhyme character (Goldilocks is the obvious one but there must be lots of other possibilities). You could dress up as the character or have a letter from them, or receive a phone call. You writing focus could be about writing a reply.
  3. Thanks for this. I was going to have a letter but wanted to try and be more fun and interactive . It's so hard to be exciting all the time!
