In this day and age I think it's unrealistic to pine for a work environment which isn't based on targets and accountability. However there are ways and means to negotiate those targets and where my job nowadays differs from what would be happening to me in teaching is professional respect and mutual trust. I work in an environment where communication is open, people work hard and it's accepted that if you can evidence doing your best others can't expect you to achieve the impossible.

I feel very lucky to have that.

A management that worked with teachers rather than against them. When I started teaching, it was some of the students who tried to stop you doing your job, now it is the management too!
