ESBD interview help

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by katana100, May 20, 2011.

  1. Hi im new here and this is my first post (generally everyone advised me to ask on here).
I'm currently a PGCE in ICT (second subect geography which the post asked for) just finishing my course now ad I have got an interview at a ESBD school and as such it appears we are not expected to give to the usual lesson or anything like that its just an tour then interview.

I was wondering what sort of questions should I expect (its with the castle care group - the interview and school that is) or if thei is a page on teh site I might find example

Cheers for any help guys and gals
    :)

Well done for getting that interview!
I'm afraid that I have no knowledge or experience of schools for children with Emotional, Social and Behavioural Difficulties, so cannot give any specialist help here. General interview help can be found inside the Welcome thread at the top of this Forum, and you may get the helpyou need for the specific queries if you go to the Special educational needs. Forum.
I am not sure what the situation is in doing your NQT induction year in an ESBD school - so do check that out.
    Best of luck!

    I
do Application and Interview one-to-ones, and also contribute to the
Job Application Workshops. We look at application letters, executive
summaries and interviews, with practical exercises that people really
    appreciate.

The Job Seminars are all sold out, I'm afraid, but Julia is planning some more later on.

A new SLT seminar is available now on 22 May www.tesweekendworkshop32.eventbrite.com, and another is planned for 18 June.

E-mail Julia on advice@tsleducation.com for how to book a meeting with me personally.

    Look forward to seeing you!

  3. Hi
I used to work in an EBD school, where I did my NQT year, and have just got a job in generic special needs school. Hopefully I can be of some help!
Things I have been asked are:
What do you think about using physical restraint?
How would you deal with disengaged students?
How would you make XYZ age appropriate? (usually things like reading, where most schemes are still very primary level based, and if your students' progress has been inhibited by their EBD then they can be quite behind)
Here is a description of a student. Set SMART targets for them

If I think of any more I'll let you know. Feel free to message me if you want to know anything else!

  4. these are great, thank you very much.

I hadn't thouht about how I would answer a physical restraint question before or SMART targets.

I know do feel a little more prepared which is always good [IMG]

  5. They'll probably ask you about your experience of students with EBD too, and might ask about you'll spend the first week or so getting to know them/win their trust.
They also might ask about how you'll deploy your TAs. If they don't ask, have an answer to this lined up anyway and work it into an answer to show you can work as part of a team, as team work is essential when working with students with SEN, as there are often a lot of people you need to communicate with! (SLT, OT, any other therapists etc)

They will probably also ask about how you'll get parents on board.
