Egypt - teacher shot and killed

Discussion in 'Teaching abroad' started by robbywilliams66, Nov 13, 2011.

  1. This was actually my school. Our vice principal, Jeff Pelland, was on vacation in Luxor with another one of our teachers. He got caught in a tribal dispute in Sohag, when his taxi driver refused to stop at an illegal checkpoint. The car was hit by bullets as it tried to leave the area.
He was taken to hospital and had multiple surgeries, but unfortunately died on Friday night.
The owner of our school spent two days in Luxor with the other teacher (who wasn't injured). Everything that could have been done was. The school owners have been beyond supportive (as they usually are) and the principal continues to do a great job.
A tragic case of wrong place wrong time.
