Edexcel English Language Certificate (aka the IGCSE for state schools)

Discussion in 'English' started by passionateteacher, Dec 15, 2011.

  1. Has anyone gone for this option? What do you make of it?
  2. We do the IGCSE. It's good - a lot better than the atrocious 'new specs'.
  3. There's plenty of time to do things in detail, so make sure you do so. Make sure you cover Section B of the Anthology thoroughly.

Do you have to do 100% examination, or can you do coursework?

Hi - I have started teaching this spec this year because I am in a PRU which makes controlled assessments pretty much impossible. It is a bit of a risk because you are so reliant on the end exam. Overall it is isn't bad - although I find some of the anthology choices a little uninspiring! On the positive side, it does give you more time to actually teach 'English'. The problem I have found is that there are very few resources available to help teach the spec. I suppose I will be able to evaluate it properly when we get the results in August! Good luck.
