Edexcel A-Level Drama - HELP!!!

Discussion in 'Drama and performing arts' started by Klylass, May 31, 2012.

  1. Hi,
I have been teaching Edexcel GCSE Drama for the past 15 months and we will be starting Edexcel A Level Drama and Theatre Studies in September for the first time. I am the only drama teacher in the school and am struggling on getting my head around how to do it! I dont have the luxury of networking locally as other schools tend to do BTEC within my area. Any advice or help would be very much appreciated as I am struggling to get even a starting point!!!
    Thank you!!!!

  3. Hi Klylass
email me on nwyllie@hotmail.co.uk asking specific questions and I'll see what I can do to help. I've got schemes which I can share for Unit 1, I'm a unit 2 examiner and I've got some resources for Unit 3 and 4 so, feel free to drop me an email with specifics.
    Cheers
    Nicky

Can I ask which part of the country you are? If you are near me I would be happy to help. If not, I would still be happy to help:)

  5. Would be happy to help if you need anything. Are you able to get on a course for it at all?

  6. I am in my second year of teaching and have been teaching Edexcel AS Drama & Theatre Studies. Don't panic as it is simple to follow when you have it set out. Happy to help if you email me shelleylhart@googlemail.com

You are a long way from me, but I am happy to help. A college called me in about six weeks ago as the AS and A Level course was taught by non specialists this year, and nothing - and I mean nothing - had been done. I worked really hard to get in and mark the coursework for AS and A Level, record a sample session for Unit 1, guide the A Level students to help them with their written exam, plus a lot of other things that should have been done but weren't. It all got done in the end. The fact that you are asking for help now means that you won't get into this position, as there are plenty of us to guide you through. I am happy to explain it all to you. I take it you are just teaching AS next year, and not A Level?
I don't understand the vertical teaching idea though - it sounds like a nightmare!

  8. Hi
I'm in Sheffield if that's of any use to you. If you want to pop to Sheffield and observe some of my A Level teaching; that's fine. Y12 come back to me after half term and they are doing prep work for Unit 3 and I'm starting them off on Unit 4 too.

    Hi,
I will be teaching Edexcel A level on my own for the first time in September, I have taught large chuncks of it before but there are still bits I haven't taught and as I will be on my own I have no-one to bounce ideas off. Any help and/or resources will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
