EAL students

Discussion in 'English' started by Magrathea, Jan 31, 2012.

  1. Our school has recently had a large influx of students whose mother tongue is not English.

They are not coping with GCSE English (i.e. failing) and one proposed solution is to remove them temporarily from the
main curriculum and employ a specialist EAL teacher to improve speaking and writing.

Has anyone else experienced the same situation in their school?

As she's in year 10, my girl doesn't do MFL. Had an amusing conversation today where I was told that the intention is that she uses year 10 to "get ready for GCSE". I'm not sure how this fits with the nature of the current specification though.
I'm now recording all of my lessons for her so that she can listen back to them in the hope that this will help her, but it's very early days.
