I have a class of year 10 students they are set 1. FFT predictions show they should be high performing but about 2/3 of them are EAL . They have been doing okay this term, most being on track when we have done assessments of short topics. They have just done an end of term exam and it is shockingly bad. It is clear most of the EAL students just haven't got the vocabulary, scientific or otherwise to access some of the questions .This is a school wide problem as our intake has changed dramatically over the last 3 years with lots of Eastern european students arriving . They are going to appoint someone to coordinate EAL but not until the new year. Any suggestions for resources/ strategies to help them ?
