EAL in Reception

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by trishafergie, Jan 11, 2011.

  1. Hello,

I have a little boy in my class who speaks Lithuanian. He has very limited English language and mainly communicates through the few English words he knows. Mum only speaks Lithuanian so at home English isn't being reinforced. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or resources for in class that would be suitable to best suit his needs?

Any thoughts and ideas will be appreciated! Thanks :)
  2. I am hoping that people find the CD ROMs for the new Floppy's Phonics Sounds and Letters programme especially helpful for EAL children. There are lots of Biff, Chip and Kipper 'scenes' with loads of audio buttons next to objects in the scenes which provide whole spoken words. This should help with pronunciation and vocabulary learning. The CD ROMs are designed to be user-friendly for independent children-use as well as the adults.
