DVD tudor exploration or on board a tudor ship, suggestions please!!

Discussion in 'Primary' started by blue3, Mar 13, 2011.

  1. Hi,
Does anyone know of any childrens' dvds based on a tudor ship ie on francis drake etc.I have looked on amazon and there are some old movies based on francis drake but i am not sure these would be appropriate or interesting. Even if i could show a few scenes that would be great.
Basically i am linking the unit stories with issues (year 4) to life on board a tudor ship which links to our topic tudors.
Thanks in advance, any suggestions would be appreciated

I did look for you, (don't want you to think you were ignored!) but thought others who had taught the topic might come back with some ideas.
A search recealed these items - but I'm not sure that they cover exploration:

Perhaps others know of better dvds?

  4. I can't help you with a dvd but have a couple of other ideas.
I used this website with my class and they really enjoyed it:
    http://www.nmm.ac.uk/TudorExploration/NMMFLASH/index.htm
It's interactive and fun. We also visited The Golden Hinde, which is on the Thames in London. It was a great day out; the children knew exactly what life on board ship was like in every gory detail! I throughly recommend it. I also bribed a retired history teacher friend of mine, to come in dressed as a captain of a ship. He held interviews for jobs on board ship for his exepedition. My class had to apply for them. It was very enjoyable and they learnt lots from it. Hope this helps a little.

  5. Hi
Thank you both for your replies. I already have one of the DVDs the tudor life one. Does anyone know if the whiteboard plus one is any good? I dont want to spend 99 pounds if it isnt!!
Thank you also for the website i will be using it. I would love to take the class to see the Golden Hinde in london but we are in the midlands and the current budget wont allow it :(
Has anyone else got any ideas or dvds they have used. Someone must have covered the topic and used a good dvd.

    Hi
I did this topic a while ago with Year 3
We found some good websites, some of which were interactive showing life on board Mary Rose
I don't have the links now but we just googled Mary Rose.

  7. Hi peepo,
I have seen the interactive site http://www.maryrose.org/dive_in/mary_rose.html
There is the link for anyone else who wants it. But i really was looking for a story i could play on the iwb. Doesnt seem like there is anything :(
Thanks for all the replies though, i do appreciate it.
