Have been trying to download sotware to convert youtube files to a sutiable fie so that it can be played from a harddrive as my wifes school block youtube.
I have been trying to download a Youtube video with various so called 'Free, Easy and quick' applications. All fail when actually trying to convert to a avi mp3 flv etc file and then point you in the direction of a more advance version which has to be purchased.
I know that this has come up before but can anyone point me in the direction of suitable & current software that actually works.
    Thanks

  7. Hello,

I use www.zamzar.com on a regular basis. It converts youtube into other files, e.g. wmv.
    It is very useful!
    Hope this helps,

  10. Another way is to use firefox as a browser with 'downloadhelper' and the 'video converter' add-ins (both free). Just browse to the video in question, click tools>downloadhelper>media>
then select your media (there will be a choice of qualities available) then click 'download and convert', select your medium and 'go'
Your computer will download, then seem to stop with the cmd window open, but it is converting, give it time!
The software is all embedded within firefox and then the files grabbed to your hardrive. FLV files are actually quite useful as they can be embedded wihin moodle as an activity.

The above software is excellent and free. It has the added advantage of not just being a youtube downloader. It will convert pretty much any media file into pretty much any format.

  12. Easiest way that I know of is to just change the just add the word "kiss" before "youtube.com" and that takes you to a site where you can download the video in various formats e.g
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvfTXBbJrIU
    becomes http://www.kissyoutube.com/watch?v=kvfTXBbJrIU

Or if you are using Ubuntu like me - downlaod UnPlug

This is what I use. save the files as an MP4 then they will play on quicktime and real player

  14. I also use Download helper for Firefox, it's excellent
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/
