Does anyone have a medium term plan for year 3/4 dance that would appeal to the boys?

We have Val Sabin at school which I really don't like - or more to the point, the boys find boring! Does anyone have a scheme that is more 'up to date', like street dance or something?
    Thank you

There is no dance scheme out there that will keep boys happy - FACT.
I've seen them all - all just awful. I'm sure some will come here to peddle their schemes - but they are awful ('Come on class lets pretend there is a ball on th ground, lets jump and put out feet on it to the music, woooahhh ain't this cool....').
Your best bet is to find some music like MIssion Impossible or James Bond. Let them create their own dance - clear start, middle, end. Must have a change of direction, level, speed etc (incorporate some gymnastic principles in it). Or you could come up with 2 or 3 dance moves which they must incorporate into their routine, For example I have done Mission Impossible with skipping ropes, and my more able group took the ropes and turned them into a laser beam scenario where theiy took it in turns to crawl under. At the end of finished dance pupils say what they liked and why, and give pointers to improve - the whole peer and self assessment boxes ticked.

gogojonny, that made me laugh! You're so right though - I can just hear the grunts of disapproval from the boys when I announce that 'this half term we are doing dance - yayyyyyyyyyyyyy'!!!!
Loving the Mission Impossible idea though, thanks for that! Time to delve into the manky skipping rope box!!

  5. I agree that boys dislike dance. However, I'm a trainee primary teacher specialising in physical education, we just completed a module in dance and our groups dance theme was robots. It worked really well as you can use upbeat music such as Daft Punk, and stimulate the children with videos from the film Robots, or dances with structure and strong, stiff movements by Diversity. This could help.
