I am researching the life and work of teacher and designer Kurt Rowland (1920-80), author of four series of classroom textbooks on art, design and Visual Literacy:

Looking and Seeing, (4 vol.) Ginn, London, 1964-66

    Learning to See
    , (5 vol.) Ginn, London, 1968-71

Sight and Insight, (2 vol., filmstrips and audio tapes) Longman, London, 1973-74

A History of the Modern Movement, (3 vol. & filmstrips), Looking and Seeing (London)/Van Nostrand Reinhold (New York), 1973

I would like to hear from any teachers (working or retired) who used these books.

Please write to me directly – ad214 at st-andrews.ac.uk – or leave a message on this thread.

    Thank you.

  2. Yes, I do remember Kurt Rowland. I used his work in the early 1980’s then more recently wrote about him as part of my MA. I always loved his clarity of thinking.
