Do you know your blood type?

I don't. And talking to someone today they were very surprised that I'd got to 40 and didn't know it.

Do you? And how did you come about this information? Was there a reason you found out or just curious?

I'm guessing quite a few folk find out through blood donations...

I'm B positive and found out by asking a nurse when I was in hospital in my 20s. It was simple curiosity that made me ask.

I'm B neg. I used to donate blood, and still would but I'm not allowed (received a blood transfusion when daughter was born)
I think it's the O positives whose blood can be given to anyone, is it?
    Edit: no, it's O negative.

I didn't till I had a baby. A+. I also found out while pregnant that I have a weird and rare blood antibody thing that means I now have to carry a card just in case I ever need a transfusion.

I used to donate and so knew my blood type - A positive.
I also was aware of it after my son was born. There seemed to be lots of information on the side of his crib. Kiellands rotation forceps is a phrase that has stayed with me!

Just struck me how important blood is and how little I know about my own...

Must have too much time on my hands.

Blood donation for me too. (I'm O pos. common, me!)

Must do it again soon. Couldn't do it for a while after returning from abroad.

Having regular blood transfusions saved my Dad's life, and when I used to accompany him to hospital, I got talking to some of the other recipients, and there were such a variety of complaints which required blood.

P.S. I used to be a blood donor, but can't remember if that was when I found out or during medicals before starting teacher training.

My son is 31 and asked me just the other day if I knew what his blood group was as he doesn't. I checked all his baby records (yes I still have them ) but it wasn't shown anywhere.

I'm not common at all hence almost a lifetime of donations and I carry a card as a just-in-case.
    I cannot donate now though

I'm also B Neg. We are an elite group! 6% population or summat. My mum is AB Neg - even rarer!

Before I had my first child, they used to take blood more regularly than the norm and used it to make the anti-D serum given to rhesus negative mums with rh + babies.

B+ found out in my first proper job at age 21.

I had malaria about 20 years ago and they don't want my blood as it's unclean even though I've never had a recurrence.

It occurs to me I now know more about some of your blood than I do about my own.
