Academies: on balance, are they any good?

    Groups of like minded schools facing similar challenges banding together, out of local authority control can be a very powerful model. However, tories being tories, they see the academy system as another opportunity to divert tax payers money into their school chums pockets. No one can seriously think they have a genuine interest in improving the lot of those who can’t afford a private education.
