Do I have to give advance warning?

I plan to retire this summer and was going to resign after Easter. I have now been told by a friend that I should give the head advance warning verbally, of my interntion to retire. Is this true - should I? I am 59 and will be 60 in December. Advice needed!
  2. Perhaps it depends on how well you get on with your head? If you are friends tell her/him, deadly enemies........wait till the very last minute!
  3. If you intend to apply of early ARB pension you do need the constent from your Head. However, consent cannot be withheld for more than 6 months. Although it seems unlikley for the Head not to consent it would seem best to ask early to avoid any problems. It also gives the school more time to plan for your replacement.
