Distraction... why did you choose your age range?

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by chrissy7, Jan 19, 2011.

  1. Secondary. I want to be a teacher not a surrogate parent. I observed both levels but the Primary age really wasn't for me, too many tears etc.

  2. Would love to teach just art and design but don't think I'd cope with the secondary school students. I love working with the younger children.

  3. Completely agree with your description of some secondary school students! I can picture year 11s like that! That's why I'm hoping by being mainly sixth form they will have got over all that as they will have chosen to stay on at school, and if they mess around it's easier to get rid!
Not that I'm an expert but that was very well written! Bet your personal statment was brilliant - good luck!

  4. I'm applying for Primary.
Similar reasons to others here: the variety of teaching across the whole curriculum really appeals. Also, I like the idea of sharing a journey and building relationships with the same 30 kids for an entire school year. My ideal class would be Yr 2 and the difference between what they are capable of in September compared to the following July is enormous. Plus as the parent of a 3 and 4 year old, I've really enjoyed seeing how children explore and learn about the world. Everything is SO exciting and fresh! I'm 40 and hoping my job will help keep me young in the coming years!

  5. Why thank you [IMG]
To be fair my personal statement was actually better written (took me weeks though!!) and didn't mention snot! [IMG]

  6. I have applied for secondary MFL: French German and Russian. There isn't as much need for language teachers at primary level, and since I am OBSESSED with languages (my degree is in Arabic), I think teaching secondary level will provide me with plenty of opportunities. I hope to work at a specialist language college and become director of the language college :))
