Can I recommend a free tool called "MyDefrag" ?
I use that.
Immensely slow though.
Whats the benefits of this tool over the in built defrag?
More alternatives. As NJBSU said, it has a very slow option (takes a couple of hours on my box) which does a complete defrag/sort and has quicker alternatives. Defrag is a one size fits all and doesn't do a very effective job ; it can't because of the raw time to optimise the data required.
All storage other than sequential storage - which is a *** to work with and rarely found any more at all - does get fragmented. The issue is if it needs to be ma less fragmented and NTFS should not, though it is far less flexible than Linux systems such as EXT4. In the Windows world, Windows 7 should not need to be specifically defragmented.
