So am I correct in thinking this means those in their 50s who have left teaching but have service in both FS and CA will be better off when it comes to drawing their pension?

Almost certainly. I've done a fair few calculations for people now and whilst the annual pension under the mix of FS and CA is fairly similar to the calculation using just FS the extra lump sum in the latter is, of course, much higher.

From the firefighters judgement it maybe possible to either have:
    1. A mix of final pension + career average.
    2. All service put into the final salary pension upto April 2022.
However, hypothetically could a third option be possible:
All service career average? This could work out for those staff on consistent salaries?
