Dear Theo - Where should I put the Executive Summary?

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by freshstart82, Mar 22, 2012.

  1. Dear Theo -

I am in the middle of applying for a new job and am a bit stuck as to where to put the Executive Summary. The form itself has this section: 'Further Information - Please attach any further details in support of your application which you feel are of interest or relevant, such as educational philosophy, personal interests and suitability for the position.' - but there is no room to write it on the form (presumably a separate page entitled 'Further Information' is required here?).

It doesn't seem to me that this would be the appropriate place for the ES (as it is much more about my values than their requirements), however in the 'Information for Candidates' section at the end of the form, it states that "[I am] invited to write a letter of application of appropriate length" and that this will be part of the consideration for short listing.

I'm stumped! Do I write a 1.5 page letter of application, do a further page for this 'Further Information' section AND do an Executive Summary?! I really don't want to end up repeating myself - what do I do?! Any advice would be gratefully received!!

    Thank you.

This is a form devised by someone who hasn't actually applied for a job using it!
Ignore the Further information, since there isn't any room on the form.
Write a two-page letter of application, and as the third page have your executive summary. Put it on the end of the letter so that it gets printed out automatically.
    Best wishes

  4. That's what I thought! It's a standard form for the county - it's the first I've applied for in my home town because it's the first one I've seen that I've had a gut feeling about.

Thank you very much. Fingers crossed now...
