Dear Theo -- Time between close of applications and shortlisting

I'm aware that asking this is possibly like asking how long is a piece of string, but I'm a trainee looking for jobs and the process is bringing out a deeply unattractive obsessive side in me.
What passes as the average length of time between the close of applications and invitations to interview being issued? The waiting after submitting an application is very frustrating (and I've only made two so far!), particularly as I know I'm unlikely to hear if unsuccessful. At least if I have a rough time frame of when's reasonable to hear if successful I might obsess a little less!
    Thanks!
    J

    :)
No average really that makes any sense. But start losing a bit of hope after a week . . . although now someone will come and tell you about a job interview offered 4 weeks later. We had just such a case on here last week.
    Best wishes
