Dear Theo - previous Head Teacher

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by 21-K, Nov 7, 2011.

  1. I was made redundant in the summer because my school unfortunately closed down and I didn't get anything else by the time I left.

My current referees are my previous HOD who I am still in contact with but my other referee is my previous headteacher. However, I only have an email address for her and I have tried to contact her but have not had a reply. It has been a week.

Do schools need a referee off the headteacher or would it be okay to put someone else down as a referee such as a deputy who I can easily contact. This situation worries me obviously because I want to apply for jobs but can't with only an email address as a contact.

    Thanks

I presume you're not expecting to put a home address? I usually put the school address and school e-mail.

  3. This is the problem, I have no address for her at all and can't get in contact with her. The school is no longer there so I can'exactly put that down as I have in the past. It is a strange situation I kno and I just don't know what to do about it.

If you have one referee from that last school, although it doesn't fit the required criterion of "last or current employer", in a case like this, it will do. After alll, there could be a situation where the Head had tragically died . . .
So put the Deputy (after contacting him/her to ask) and then in your application, where you explain briefly about the school closing, add: For this reason I am unable to give the Headteacher as a referee as her whereabouts are currently unknown; I am therefore giving the Deputy Head and the Head of Department.
    Best wishes
