Dear Theo/others: writing a statement to a school I've worked in

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by semteach, May 3, 2011.

  1. A vacancy has came up in a school I worked in as a TA before leaving to do my PGCE. I loved working there, the staff and the children were brilliant and I was really upset when I left. Since qualifying I've been wondering if a job would come up there!
In my other letters of application/personal statements I've mentioned my experience as a TA and the various responsibilities I had, but is this necessary this time? Should I just mention what a great experience it was working there and how I have the same visions as the school?

Yes, this is the advice that I always give: pretend that you are writing an application for another school that doesn´t know you, and treat the interview in the same way. Tell them everything that you have done that is relevant to the teaching role, and certainly mention your ethos being the same as yours.
But an additional point here needs to be taken into account. They knew you as a TA, you have to be re-born as a teacher. make sure that you make this clear.
    Best of luck!
