If they're expecting 100-200 applications (some schools apparently do) then it would make sense to put some urgency into the advert, so people consider if it's the right school etc & they could cap the applications after they'd had a suitable number & save themselves some shortlisting- candidates will have done some of it for them.

Unless it is a Ht post they don't have to at all. Maybe DH can't remember. But anyway it won't be that!

Possibly they just want to get on and appoint. They will read each application as it arrives and once they have half a dozen they like the look of they will interview and then appoint. Then they don't have to wade through 100 or more applications. I once applied to an independent school who did this and missed the boat by apparently a few days.
  3. Think this happened to me last week. I rang fir details of a job (currently still advertised by the way online) and was told it had been withdrawn as they had sorted it. I am a primary music specialist and this is what was advertised and it was only a couple if days after it's posted date.

100 - 200 applications? You must be joking!
Some schools are now getting 200-300!
And if they see some good candidates that they wish to grab fast, before they get a job elsewhere, theyt start calling them in for interview asap.
Saves them having to trawl through the rest.
    Best wishes
