Dear Theo-maternity cover/temporary job

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by optomistic, Mar 2, 2012.

  1. Hi,
I am a GTP student and have been approached by my placement school with a tentative offer of a temporary maternity cover job in September. Would it be worth me looking into this further or would I be better off going for other jobs-bearing in mind in the region I am in jobs are few and far between and appear also to be temporary contracts anyway?
    Thanks

Only my opinion, but if jobs are hard to come by in your area and you've been offered a maternity cover in a school where you know you'd fit in, I recommend going for it.

  3. Thanks .... I think I agree with that!

It may lead to a permanent role too....
I know several teachers who have secured permanent posts from an initial maternity contract.

Yes, I cannot see why you wouldn't go for it.
    A bird in the hand . . .
Plus oit could indeed lead to a permanent post, if not in that school then your Head might tell another Head about you.
At the very least, when you start applying at the end of the period, you can say that yoiu were asked to stay on - that looks so good!
    Best wishes

  6. Thanks Theo,
It seems like the general consensus is to go for it...so I shall!
