Dear Theo: keeping up to date with subject developments

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by phoebe84, Oct 12, 2011.

  1. Dear Theo,

I have an interview at a special school and desperately want the post. I interviewed at their partner school earlier in the year and missed out to someone who had experience of leading English (being that they only employ one English teacher) and don't want the same thing to happen this time.
The question that really tripped me up at interview was: "How would you keep up to date with subject developments?" Any tips for this one please?

    Thank you!

Come off it, you know the answer to that one- regular research particularly TES,government initiatives, colleague networking at conferences etc.
  3. That's exactly the kind of answer I did give and when I got feedback they said my answer needed development (or something along those lines). I presume the "bog standard" answer was not enough for what they were looking for. I'd also add training with the relevant exam board and liaising with their subject specialist, as needed, and collaborating with the other English teachers across their federation of special schools. I'm just wondering if there's anything more to add as I don't want to miss out again.
