Dear Theo ... Job at Supply School

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by irasor, May 7, 2011.

  1. Dear Theo,
A KS2 job in has come up in a school where I covered 1 and 1/2 days per week, for six weeks, in a Year 4 class, and a few other single days in Nursery, Y2 and Y6.
I obviously want to mention I have been in the school before as a supply teacher, however I am unsure of how much I should write on this ...?
I was thinking of saying in my opening paragraph of my statement that I am applying for the permanent job having been in the school on several occassions as a supply teacher and found it to be welcoming and reflective of my own educational ethos etc ...
Will this be enough or should I include a full paragraph on it?
... Gosh Theo, I feel as though I am being very pedantic ... but just want to make every application perfect ...
    Thank you in advance :)

I think that a full paragraph setting out your experience in the shool would be good. Do highlight the ethos but also that you have worked effectively as part of the KS2 team, and that you have enjoyed being flexible and working in different year groups to fit the school's needs. Also remind them of anything else that you have done.
A common failing with internal or known candidates is that they tend to undersell themselves as they think "Oh they know what I do ". Don't fall into that trap! Good luck.
