Dear Theo - Is this normal?

I saw a job advertised that I was thinking of applying for. It is for an independent school. They ask for a photo though. I'm not very comfortable about this, despite looking like an escaped convict in photos, I dont like the idea of a photo of myself floating around some random school!
Why do they want a photo? Is this normal?
    Thanks [IMG]

Nope, not very common nowadays - it just means that they are a little old-fashioned in their HR procedures.
In the past it was asked for, but times have changed in most schools. I'm assuming that they are just too innocent to realise that people could think that they were trying to weed out certain ethnic groups; preventing people suspecting this is the major reason for not asking for photos nowadays.
You have to decide whether you want to work there or not. If you do, then you have to put up with the photo. Smile, get someone to take a dozen photos with different sorts of smile, and then let them help you choose which one to send - we are never good judges ourselves of our apperance in photos.
Lots of schools have the photos of all teachers on display in the entrance hall, this is just an extension.
Remember the advice for applying to Indy schools: Dear Theo - applying to indy school.......
    Best wishes
