Dear Theo I have failed......

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by artbot, May 5, 2011.

  1. I have failed to gain a place on PGCE (Primary), Theo. Imanaged to get an interview but failed to get into the course. I am quite devastated. What I want i ask is this:
    I can go to Australia
    to do the PGCE but
should I? I would just walk in! The problem is I would have to leave my
family back here in the UK and I would still be "unqualified" when I
returned with no QTS but I cant get in a PGCE course here for Primary-I
think they are making it impossibel just to get in let alone to
    completing the course!
Do u think It is a good idea? I know I would have 4 years to get QTS-but is it worth doing this route? Apreciate your help for job prospects.
As a note other have suggested I do FE PGCE as I am an art specialist-is there job prospects in this as good as Primary?? Thanks Theo.

I'm sorry to hear that, Artie.
It must be very disappointing for you.
I can give no advice at all on the Australia possibility, as I know nowt about it. You could try posting on Career Clinic for Prof John Howson - he might be able to help you.
As for the FE PGCE, I must warn you. You get not QTS but QTLS, which does NOT qualify you to teach in schools. And teaching in FE is vey hard to get into. There are loads of redundancies at present. It is not a Career option that I would recommend at present because the employment situation is not good.
In one way I suppose that it is a good thing that the number of Primary teacher-trainees is being cut. There are so very many unemployed Primary teachers that it doesn't make sense to train even more. The only thing that I can say is that it is better to be turned down now than after investing more time and effort into getting trained.
A (poorly-paid) alternative is applying to become a TA in a Primary School. That would give you a rewarding job in many cases. And who knows - it might help you get on a course in the future.
I'm sorry that you have had this disappointment.
