Dear Theo - Head of Department Interview advice

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by Jimbo101, Jun 21, 2011.

  1. Dear Theo,

I have an interview on Thursday for a Head of Department position. I've had 3 (unsuccessful) interviews at other schools, all for mainscale posts, this is my first ever management interview. I've been teaching for 7 years, but have been a stay at home mum for the last academic year. How would you advise me to prepare for the interview?

I'm also a bit worried about the lesson, as the last interview I had, I failed on the lesson, it was described as less 'whizzy' than other candidates - they suggested I might be 'rusty' (although the lesson was English and I am a drama teacher and had never taught an English lesson before!). Its knocked my confidence a bit - any advice?

    Thanks

    Sarah

Well done for getting that interview!
If you open the Welcome thread at the top of the Forum, you'll find some interview clickables inside with tips and ideas for preparation.
Think about being a leader as well as a manager. Think about support. Support for pupils, support for staff, Think about team work.
No advice, ever, on lessons - you always know more than me here!
Best of luck! Looking forward to that new thread called Dear Theo - I got that job!
