Dear Theo - executive summary; what to put?

Remember that it's a summary, so don't write too much.
Experience of managing parental expectations = 3 years successful experience as form tutor years 7-9, with parental thanks.
Attention to accuracy and detail = write approx 250 progress reports each term, Head of Year praises accuracy
    See the sort of thing?
I'd leave out any personality things, let them see that when they meet you.
I should imagine that your major problem could be if they ask for experience of boarding; you'll just have to talk about your success in your pastoral role in current school. Don't forget to check out the Welcome thread on the Independent Forum, and do a search there for "application" to get some more tips. You'll need to come out in your application letter about the wide contribution that you hope to make to the co-curricular life of the school.
    Best of luck!

The next Weekend Workshop on applications is on Sunday 23rd January. Contact advice@tes.co.uk for more details on all of these.
    Look forward to seeing you!

  2. Thanks for the quick feedback, Theo. I've made the responses very specific and emphasised my experience of working with young people in residential settings - not the same as boarding but hopefully a step in the right direction. Am going to have a look through the independent forum now. Here's hoping for an interview!

  3. Hi Theo,
I've got an interview! Not sure what it involves yet (they've left an answerphone message and will phone back today) but I've been browsing the independent threads for possible questions.
    Thanks for your help.

Excellent news! A good job well done there, you can feel pretty pleased about that.
And browsing the Indy Forum for ideas is good too. Don't forget to read the interview clickables here on JobSeekers inside the Welcome thread.
And then you can continue our tradition of starting a new thread called "Dear Theo - I got that job!"
    Best of luck

  6. Hi Theo,
I didn't get the job ... but the interview went very well and the panel were positive, so I'm glad I went for it. They interviewed 8 candidates and most had more experience than me. Thanks for all the advice - I'm sure it'll benefit me again for the next application!

Hi mulah. Sorry you didn't get the job.
8 at interview so must have been good competition, so it was a plus that you did get an interview. All the research might come in useful for next time.
