Dear Theo- conflicting advice about application letter

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by smartblonde, May 4, 2011.

  1. Hi
I have read in so many places (including your articles) that a good way to start an application letter is 'I am writing to apply for the position of.....' However, in a recent CV masterclass at uni, the lecturer told us NOT to begin with this, but to start with something more original like an anecdote or a quote.
What is your opinion on this? I quite like the idea of standing out from the crowd, but will it look like I'm showing off?
    Many thanks in advance
