Dear Theo: applying to an Academy?

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by craftyangel, Feb 17, 2012.

  1. Hi Ttheo and all,
I'm looking for a new job (currently working through my NQT) in Bristol/South Glous, I'm currently living in Hampshire working in a Primary school.
There's a job I've seen in an academy and I was wondering if you have any impartial advice about working in an academy. I've read lots of things from my union (NUT) and on the DofE website about schools with academy status but obviously they are both rather biased.
I do have some concern from what I've read, freedom to set teachers' pay and conditions and their own term dates but some advice about what the real difference between 'normal' Primary schools and an academy would be greatly appreciated!
    Ta,
    Crafty.
