Dear Theo - Applying for promotional positions after working in international schools

I have worked in the UK for 2 years and internationally for 8 years in reputable schools teaching the National Curriculum. I am making applications for DH and AH posts back in the UK and have had my references called. However, I am not being called for interview. Can you give me an idea as to why this might be? Thanks in advance for any advice.

It's impossible to second-guess what is in the mind of a selection committee, I'm afraid.
If your references are always being called, then your application is interesting. It means that you have been long-listed, the stage in some schools where, say, 12-15 candidates' references are called and then further consideration is given to the applications before deciding on the shoert list.
Don't feel that your referees have let you down - it isn't just the references that are the deciding factor.
What may be the issue in your case is the fact that you are overseas.
The school may be unwilling or unable to pay your travel costs, or unwilling to ask you to pay.
End of contract and applying for a post in the UK for September?
You may have to grit your teeth and have a period of unemployment in UK on your return. Or sray where you are . . .
    Best wishes
