Dear Theo: Another question about Executive Summary

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by ShyTea, Jan 15, 2012.

  1. I have read that you suggest one page to cover what the school are looking for and match up with your experience. The person spec I have goes over 2 pages and has 45 statements that they are looking for. They are under 5 headings Qualifications, Experience, Professional Knowledge and Understanding, Professional Skills and Abilities and Personal Qualities. Do I go over 2 pages in this case? I would rather not select some points and not others in case they think I am suggesting the ones I haven't selected are not important. What would you suggest in this case? Many thanks.

Just in case you need a reply tonight and Theo doesn't look till tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure he will say keep it to just one page , but do combine categories together where possible.

  3. Thanks - I have been looking at how to combine but feel that I am then deleting points of the person spec and won't be doing myself any justice. Thanks though :) I appreciate you posting. I somehow forget what a minefield writing applications can be. Apparently it's like giving birth - you know it hurts but until you do it again you don't remember just how much ! :)

No, you don't always have to delete - summarising can be putting the two together, combining them. You can put Marking, Assessment and Reporting to parents often into one line: All assessment carried out according to Dept policy, and attand Parents' meetings.
Unless it's a SLT post, best to keep it to 1 side only.
    Best wishes.

  5. It is for an AHT position if that makes a difference. I'm still trying to group them together - it might take me a few days but will get there. Thanks

In which case you might get away with 2 sides . . .
    Best wishes
